NEW & NOTABLE THIS WEEK

Hello November!

Mobius Fields will demo garlic planting, provide handy tips, and answer all your questions about growing great garlic.  Demos will be at 10:00 and Noon at the Mobius Fields booth.  It is also a great time to plant Jerusalem Artichokes, aka Sunchokes, Deb will talk about these beautiful and nutritious native sunflowers at 11:00.  If you miss the demos just stop by the booth - she loves to talk about this stuff any time.  Seed garlic and Jerusalem Artichokes for planting or eating are available for sale!

Visit Lou at JD Farms and ask him about the all new Bacon Rib Pork Chop.

J'Adore Baking debuts a new Fall pastry: the WAM cake. It's a Walnut, Apple, and Maple syrup cake, made with local apples from Hudson, NY. Conveniently packaged in a gold cup for an easy "grab and go" delight with your morning coffee from Xquisite Coffee!

Cool fall nights call for a glass of red wine. Visit Fjord Vineyards and Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery who join us as rotating vendors this week.

Pumpkin carving take the edge off your knives? Get your knives sharpened by Jack Knife. It is SO easy…drop, shop and pick up your revived tools. It takes Jack approximately 15 minutes to do a block of knives.

TODAY, OCTOBER 27
While the TaSH is closed Saturday, here are EIGHT things to get excited about now and through the last few weeks of the market!

1) Blessed Brewery is launching a HOME DELIVERY service this winter!
They will host a home delivery service during our off-season from December 2018 through April 2019 to get you through the winter! Ask Stephanie from Blessed Brewery about it at the market next week.

2) Thanksgiving turkeys are coming to the TaSH!
We are excited to announce that this year we'll be offering a limited selection of fresh and frozen locally-raised turkeys for sale! Meadowland Farm will begin taking pre-orders on Sat., Nov 3 + more details will be shared next week.

3) Itching for Sweethearth Bakeshop? You can go pick some up TODAY at their kitchen in Bronxville. Since they won't be able to sell their goodies at the market this weekend, they're happy to arrange a pick-up at their kitchens. They'll have granola varieties, scones, biscuits, cupcakes and brownies! Message them on Instagram (@sweethearth_bakeshop) to arrange a pick-up!

4) Sign up for our Thanksgiving Dessert Contest! Pre-registration is now open for our second annual contest which will be held on our last market day, Saturday, November 17. To learn more and sign up, visit: http://tashfarmersmarket.org/thanksgivingdessertcontest

5) Last chance to take our ANNUAL CUSTOMER SURVEY + potentially earn TaSH Cash! We're extending our annual customer survey to stay open through November 17 but you only have a few more days to be eligible to win TaSH Cash!!!  We'll randomly select  15  winners by October 31 to win TaSH Cash. All winners will be notified via e-mail and TaSH Cash will be available for pick-up at next week's market on November 3. You must include your e-mail at the end of the survey to enter.
English Survey Link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/5H9J7RY
Spanish Survey Link:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VYNTDMH

6) Start thinking about stocking your pantry. Many of our farmers and vendors offer items that store very well throughout the winter and with only a few weeks left until the season ends, it's time to start taking inventory! Farmer Laura from Peace & Carrots Farm tells us she's using her "free" time not spent at today's market to create beautiful garlic braids that she'll have at the market soon. These will easily store for a couple of months at home - if not longer!

7) Make plans to visit a farm or orchard while you still can! Many of our farmers offer farmstands and pick-your-own visits for a limited time of year. As the seasons get cooler, there are only so many weekends left. Mead Orchards will offer its FINAL day of pick-your-own apples this Sunday, October 28. Fishkill Farms will have its final Fall Festival Weekend this weekend but continue to offer pick-your-own for a few more weeks. Check their websites for more details!

8) Sign up for our vendors' newsletters! For example, did you know you can pre-order your fish ahead of time from Hudson Valley Seafood? Take note next weekend at the market and ask vendors if they have newsletters or sign-up sheets so you can get first dibs on what's fresh!

NEW & NOTABLE THIS WEEK

It's going to be a "JAM"-packed weekend at the TaSH thanks to Tarrytown's EcoFair and the Annual Scarecrow Making Event happening next to the market!

No Place Like Home will be featuring a paella demonstration at 9:30 am and serving up prepared foods all day from 8:30 am - 2:00 pm.

Reminder -- the music will be located on the grassy "stage" just beyond Fishkill Farms (in front of the stone building on Broadway) for the duration of construction in the park.

COMPOSTING & FOOD SCRAP UPDATE! One question we get very often at the market is "Do you accept food scraps / composting?" We are excited to share that the Village of Tarrytown is piloting a Food Scrap + Composting Drop Off Program NEXT WEEK. The drop off location will be adjacent to the Tarrytown Senior Center. Tarrytown's Environmental Advisory Council (TEAC) will be hosting its annual EcoFair during the TaSH this weekend and will be on hand to answer any questions you might have. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6

NEW & NOTABLE THIS WEEK

This weekend promises to bring some cozy, cooler temperatures meaning it's the perfect time to start menu-planning those favorite fall dishes! Need some inspiration? Check out these mouth-watering recipes featuring peak produce at the TaSH!

We are excited to officially be in October, a month that brings some of our biggest number of vendors attending each week! Speaking of... we're delighted to welcome *NEW* vendor, Alpacatrax this Saturday. This second-generation family farm in upstate New York specializes in in the production of top quality alpaca fiber. Stop by to check out their amazing collection of yarns, fleeces, felts + fine wool goods like knitted, one-of-a-kind alpaca throws, scarves and shawls.

This weekend is your chance to catch some of our popular rotating vendors who return including DACHA Live-Cultured Veggies, Arlotta Food Studio, White Plains Orchids, Acorn Hill Farm, C-Los Carpentry, and No Place Like Home (the paella is back)!

Our kids' activities are getting a special visit this week from a "Musical 'Petting' Zoo," courtesy of School of Rock White Plains. It's a great opportunity for kids to learn about and try out different instruments. Reminder that our kids' activities (including Marta C's Book Nook this week) all now take place at the "Stone Stage" during playground construction. For a full listing of our special family-friendly activities this fall, click here.

As you start cleaning out those gardens for the season and preparing your yard for winter, it's a great time to consider getting your tools (like pruning shears!) sharpened by Jack Knife Sharpening.

This week there will be a temporary relocation of our live music to the grassy "stage" just beyond Fishkill Farms (in front of the stone building on Broadway).  Please join us there where there is plenty of room to roll out your picnic blanket and relax. (Note that this move is temporary to accommodate landscaping and other work currently underway in the park.)

Lastly, as our local shoppers well know, we've started the busy tourist season in our community and that means police will be strictly enforcing parking rules. FYI - there are "NO PARKING" signs posted on the east side of North Washington Street in Tarrytown so we'd encourage you to avoid parking there so you don't get a ticket. Fear not, though! As always, we have FREE PARKING EVERY WEEK right across the street from the market at John Paulding School (just look for the signs to the walking path!)

Until about 1500, autumn was just called “harvest.”  The full moon closest to the autumn equinox is known as a harvest moon. Before cities electrified, the bright night of the harvest moon was essential for farmers harvesting their late-year crops.
